Ways to Budget

In the current economic climate many of us have found that our expendable incomes are not what they once were. Even if you are lucky enough not to have your lifestyle too drastically affected you might find that you’re not able to save the same amount of your salary as you were previously. In order to keep the financial status quo compromises have to be made and budgets drawn up. The easiest way to do this is to make a list of your recurrent expenditures and have a think about ways in which you might reduce these without lowering your quality of life or detracting from your happiness.

Something that’s become a regular part of our modern lifestyles is eating out with friends. Formerly a special treat, reserved for celebrations and special occasions, is now commonplace when you simply haven’t seen your friends for a while and you’re looking for a way to catch up. One great way to save some cash on eating out, if this is something you do regularly, might be to check out moneysavingexpert.com where you can find a range of dining out vouchers every day of the week. Alternatively, why not think about eating in once in a while? Cook something simple for your friends, like a hearty stew or a big pasta dish, and ask them to bring their own booze – you’ll save a packet.

Another social tool that could be costing you more than it needs to be is your mobile phone. When was the last time that you checked the web to see if you’re still getting the best deal available? Have you done your research thoroughly? To potentially save yourself a few more pennies each month why not check out the major network providers, such as Vodafone, to see what their latest mobile phone deals are and whether you could be paying less or getting more from your money? You could also look out for special offers, such as promotions offering free calls to certain friends and family members, which could be ideal for you.

Whatever it is that you choose to spend your money on, be it food, phones, or anything else, now is the time to start thinking carefully about whether it’s wise and whether it’s worth it. There are almost always cheaper alternatives if you’re willing to use your imagination and have a look for them.
